Cutting of Transparent Materials by Tailored Absorption

Ultrashort pulse lasers allow processing of transparent materials by nonlinear absorption. We report on tailoring the absorption inside the volume of glass for cutting applications. The influences of moving breakdown, accumulation and incubation effects are discussed.
