A spatially resolved modeling approach for piezoelectric composite structures based on finite elements

2016
We propose a modified modal reduction technique for piezoelectric composite structures, based on the Finite Element Method. The geometry and different materials involved in composite structures are described by Finite Element models with sufficient spatial discretization. In order to enable efficient computation, we reduce the model order by employing mechanical mode shapes of the coupled problem as well as their corresponding spatially distributed electric potentials. Due to our modifications to the reduction method, the reduced model retains the properties of the originating Finite Element problem within a bandwidth of interest.
