Manejo del paciente con meningitis bacteriana aguda

2002
Aside the newborn period, thanks to better immunization programs in our country, acute bacterial meningitis (ABM) in children has diminished drastically; however ABM still remains as an important problem in internal pediatric practice. At the Hospital Infantil de Mexico Federico Gomez, in the last 10 years confirmed cases of ABM had also decreased, in a similar proportion as in the country. It is feasible that with a lesser number of ABM cases observed, the clinical assessment of this disorder may be confusing for young pediatrician; therefore, inadequate clinical decisions may be taken, and management errors of ABM cases may be done. In this work, a guide for the management of ABM in children is proposed.
