The invention relates to a method for conditioning fuel for internal combustion engines of motor vehicles. According to the invention on board a motor vehicle at a temperature of 20 DEG C to 150 DEG C and at atmospheric pressure nitrous gases which essentially comprise nitrogen monoxide, nitrogen dioxide or nitrous oxide or gaseous mixtures thereof, passed through the liquid fuel of the motor vehicle, due to the passing the nitrous gases are generated from the fuel liquid nitro compounds in the fuel.
