An Improved Adaptive Border Marching Algorithm for Inclusion of Juxtapleural Nodule in Lung Segmentation of CT-Images

2012
Lung segmentation is an important preprocessing step in the diagnosis of lung cancer using chest Computed Tomography (CT) images. Presence of Juxtapleural nodules makes lung segmentation more complex. In this paper, an Improved Adaptive Border Marching (IABM) algorithm is proposed for lung segmentation. This algorithm reliably includes Juxtapleural nodules while avoiding under-segmentation of convex regions. The proposed algorithm is a simple, reliable and efficient approach for segmenting lungs from a two dimensional CT-image.
