Development and RCS Measurement of Chinese Scooter Dummy

The accidents related to scooter account for the biggest part among all the accidents related to two-wheelers in China, but there is no available scooter target for ADAS test now. Given the issue mentioned above, a completely new scooter target with conspicuous Chinese characteristics is being developed and will be applied in 2021 C-NCAP regulation. This paper studies the target development process, especially the verification test process of RCS (Radar Cross Section) property, for the RCS property is important for radar detection. The main contents include development background, target dimension determination, test process introduction, test results and main conclusions. The RCS values of the target were compared with that of two real scooters. Compared with two real scooters, the RCS values at the front and rear parts of the target are larger, while the RCS reflectivity of target body is smaller, which is caused by the attitude difference between the target and real scooters, the different number plate size and case size, and corresponding solutions are also proposed. The feasibility of the test method for roughly calibrating RCS values is verified. The research in this paper is useful reference for developing targets in line with domestic real conditions.
