Abstract: The corrosion deterioration of post-tensioned wires embedded in concrete does not necessarily show damage over the structure surface. Since this damage is not visible, non-destructive methods are required to assess the integrity of the embedded post-tensioned wires. For decades, noninvasive test have been sought for the evaluation of these elements. Previous research in this field, including NCHRP programs, identify methods that although promising, have not yet led to widespread implementation of a practical and safe technique. This paper evaluates the application of direct current voltage gradient technique (DCVG) for the inspection of pre-stressed concrete elements as a contribution to detection of cable damage caused by corrosion. The results show that it is feasible to apply the technique to detect defects in the insulation of an array type pre-stressed concrete element with the direct current voltage gradient technique. In the test conditions, the intensity of the voltage gradient is located directly above the actual defect. Included recommendations, conclusions, tables and figures.
