Giant-cell reparative granuloma in the temporal bone

2003
Most giant-cell lesions of the craniofacial area are giant-cell reparative granulomas (GCRGs). This benign tumoral lesion is mainly located in the mandible and has predilection to young women. There is considerable controversy on the neoplastic and reactive origin of this growth. This might be explained by the slightly different histopathologic characteristics between GCRGs and other giant-cell lesions like giant-cell tumor (GCT) or osteoclastoma, brown tumor associated with hyperparathyroidism, and aneurysmal bone cyst. We report a case of a 60-year-old man affected by GCRGs of the temporal bone, which represents an extremely rare finding because of the age and sex of the patient and the location of the lesion, considering the cases described in the existing literature.
