Etiology Analysis of 24 Patients with Cerebral Watershed Infarction

2013
Objective: To explore the etiology of 24 patients with cerebral watershed infarction(CWSI). Methods: Twenty-four CWSI patients were examined by MRI and carotid ultrasonography. Results: The plaques were found in 8 patients(73%) with cortical CWSI, while the artery stenosis/occlusion was observed in 3 patients(27%). The difference was statistically significant(P0.05). The plaques were detected in 3 patients(23%) with subcortical CWSI, while the artery stenosis/occlusion was present in 10 patients(77%). The differences was statistically significant(P0.05). Conclusion: Cortical CWSI may be mainly related with plaque formation, whereas subcortical CWSI may be mainly due to artery stenosis or occlusion.
