Czechoslovakia’s iron and steel industry

1964
The development of the Czechoslovakian iron and steel industry—especially between 1937 and 1963—is reported. Special conditions relating to power supplies, transportation facilities, and raw material sources are described. Iron- and steelmaking facilities at the New Klemet Gottwald Metallurgical Works at Ostrava-Kunice and the East Slovakia Ironworks being built at Kosice are detailed, and Krupp-Renn and ore beneficiation operations are outlined. The new plant at Kosice, plus improvements to existing plants, will raise Czechoslovakia’s annual crude steel capacity from its 1963 level of 7.6 million metric tons to 12 million tons.
