Improved Evaluation of Acoustic Transducers Using Digital Processing of Radiation Field Images

Abstruct-In this paper the introduction of microcomputer-based data acquisition and image processing is shown to enhance considerably the performance of an optically scanned acoustic imaging system. A novel form of analog/digital correction technique is described that can virtually eliminate the effects of system nonuniformities in both amplitude and phase responses. The application of this method of transducer evaluation is shown to give highly satisfactory results compared with those available from alternative imaging systems.
