Design of a Novel Isotropic 3D Dipole

A novel isotropic 3D antenna on a cubic structure is presented in this paper. The antenna includes an active 0.6λ 0 meander line dipole and two identical orthogonal parasitic meander line dipoles that are wrapped around the cube to achieve a near isotropic radiation pattern. The cube size is 20 mm × 20 mm × 20 mm, corresponding to 0.16 λ 0 (at 2.4 GHz). The isotropic pattern and miniaturized geometry of the antenna are attractive for wireless sensor and RFID applications.
