Optimizing Human Performance Data for Enhanced Modeling and Analytics

2021
A recent proliferation of wearable sensors, advancements in modeling and simulation, and a greater appreciation for individual differences have enabled the Department of Defense (DoD) to generate and collect more human performance data than ever before. Despite trends in human performance research the DoD has maintained a conservative approach to data by limiting effective data access and distribution. However, as the strategic importance of a data-centric organization has become more apparent, a cultural shift within the DoD has begun to prioritize data as an asset. This paper describes efforts to develop a Soldier-centric human performance database including a generalized approach and framework to actively support innovative human performance research and analytics. The successful completion and utilization of a dedicated human performance data management system will provide an interoperable database that facilitates research and development for researchers and operational communities across current and future applications.
