Energy use of wood in Georgia

1983
Interviews were held with 35 timber and wood products firms, 11 pulp, paper and board mills and 2 non-wood industries to determine the characteristics and demands of users of wood energy in Georgia, USA. Forest products industries were the largest users of wood for energy (8.5 x 10/sup 6/ ton in 1981). Manufacturing residues were the main source of wood energy. A survey of 11 operators of whole tree chipping systems showed that ca. 30% of the chips were produced for fuel, but the market demand for such fuel is small at present.
