Model potential calculations of diamagnetic spectra of Rydberg sodium atoms

The energy spectra and oscillator strength of Rydberg sodium atoms in the uniform magnetic fields have been calculated using basis set method combined with model potential.Both the radial and angular wave-functions are expanded in terms of B-spline functions.The resultant size of Hamiltonian matrix is reduced considerably,which make the calculations can be carried out.The results are in good agreement with other theoretical calculations which use the R-matrix approach combined with quantum defects and other methods.The method presented in this paper can be extended easily to the cases of Rydberg atoms in crossed field problem.
