MAMÍFEROS PLEISTOCENOS DEL OESTE DE LA REGIÓN PAMPEANA, ARGENTINA

In southern South America, the basic knowledge of the Pleistocene palaeofauna comes from the eastern area of the Pampean region, specifically restricted to the actual territory of the Buenos Aires province. In this contribution we report an association of Pleistocene mammals comes from the western area of the Pampean region (San Francisco, Cordoba province). This association, composed basically by taxa adapted to the cold an arid environment present in the later Pleistocene, is compatible with a glacial moment. From a biostratigraphic point of view, it is important to remark the presence of the Equidae Equus ( Amerhippus ) neogeus and the Glyptodontidae Neosclerocalyptus paskoensis , both taxa limited to the Lujanian Stage (ca. 130-8 kyr BP). Finally, and from a taxonomic point of view, this association of Pleistocene mammals is similar to that developed in the eastern area of the pampean region, studied from the middle of the XIX century.
