Assessment of Conflict Area Parameters Measurements by Using Photographic Methods

2019
This paper presents a case study for measuring luminance and uniformity by using a modern method. The presented method, also known as ”imaging method” uses a conventional digital photo camera calibrated to measure luminance and present it as a luminance map presenting the values for the entire area for which the photo is taken. The particular study presented is for a conflict area, but this method can be used for straight road measurements as well. In this particular study it is presented a very important conflict area in Iasi City, Romania Country, on Bucsinescu road for which a lighting calculation is made using DIALux 4.13 and the results are compared to the values measured by the camera. One of the conclusions is that values are very sensible to the properties of the asphalt and the position of the observer, but still very close to the values calculated to the DIALux Software. This is a strong statement of the accuracy and usability of this method and a clear example of the benefit one would encounter if this measurement method would be considered as a standard for reception in street lighting systems upgrades and extensions.
