Effects of low temperature on physiological and biochemical characteristics of pepper seedlings

2006
The physiological and biochemical indexes of seedling leaves of six different pepper cultivars were determined after these seedlings were treated under 5,8 ℃ and 15 ℃,respectively, for three days. The results showed that as the temperature dropped, the content of chlorophyll decreased, the content of malondialdehyde(MDA) increased, the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) decreased at the beginning and then increased, the activity of peroxidase(POD) was different among each cultivar under 8 ℃ and 15 ℃,but under 5 ℃ the activity of peroxidase(POD) of all cultivars increased.
