The Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ (BSCCO-2212) precursor was melted and solidified by means of various quench methods (atomisation, splatcooling). The amorphous samples were examined by DTA/TG analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. The average activation energy for crystallisation obtained from the slope of the DTA peak temperature at different heating rate is 361 kJ/mol. X-ray diffraction analysis and thermogravimetric measurements showed a qualitative difference between rapidly (amorphous) and slowly cooled (crystalline) sample
