Structural inhomogeneity and strength of wound fiberglass components

1978
1. Equations have been derived for estimating the effects of nonuniform component distribution on the carrying capacity for unidirectional wound items. 2. It is possible to determine the wall thickness of rings for which uniaxial or planar states of stress can be assumed. 3. These results allow one to determine the strengths of wound components made of reinforced plastics on the basis of the nonuniform distribution of the components in the layers, which is of value in drawing up technical recommendations for the manufacture of such components.
