Determination of the effective viscosity of concentrated suspensions

1998
The problem of determining the effective viscosity of concentrated suspensions was solved. It was assumed that clusters change the flow hydrodynamics of a suspension of a fairly high concentration of disperse particles. The obtained theoretical dependence of the viscosity of the suspension on the concentration of the dispersed phase is compared to the known experimental data on the measurement of the viscosity of concentrated suspensions. The packing density of particles γ max is assumed to be the same in all clusters and plays a crucial role in the solution of the problem. It is possible to describe the whole set of the known experimental data by varying γ max from the value corresponding to the least dense cubic packing to that corresponding to the densest hexagonal packing.
