Investigation of luminescence and excitation spectra of molecular iodine

1981
An investigation was made of the influence of buffer gases N2, Xe, CF4, C3F8, and n-C5F12 on the intensity of the luminescence emitted by molecular iodine in the form of bands at 342 and 510 nm when the mixtures were excited with radiation of wavelength 206.2 nm. The rate constants of the excitation I2(D→D') and quenching I2(D') by these gases were determined. The excitation spectrum of the I2(D') state was obtained using a source with a continuous spectrum in the ultraviolet region.
