α-HgI2 platelets technology

Abstract The growth of α-HgI 2 platelets from vapour was studied. The crystals were obtained in the presence of organic compounds and/or noble gases. The changes of chemical composition and pressure of gases in ampoules were observed. The mechanism of growth process was related to the result of HgI 2 vapour transport rate measurements. Purity and stoichiometry of the applied HgI 2 samples were investigated. Morphology and crystal structure of the crystal were observed. A number of detectors was manufactured and tested.
