Los documentales de la serie GEA como recurso educativo y divulgativo sobre patrimonio geológico

2015
The staff of the Geominero Museum, ascribed to the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME), has worked for over 15 years in the implementation of new didactic approaches to complement the scientific discourse of the exhibition based on its collections of fossils, minerals and rocks. The geological heritage managed, preserved, documented and researched in the Geominero Museum must be used as an educational and outreach resource to service the general public. For this purpose, a series of documentaries named “Gea”, of which we are now presenting the third titled Gea and fossils, was created in 2007. The two previous documentaries focused on the origin of the different types of rocks and on the paleontological relevance of amber and its bioinclusions, respectively; both documentaries obtained a high broadcasting, including more than 1,000,000 visits on YouTube. We expect a greater broadcasting of the new documentary because it has been made using improved narrative and technical resources and it has also been dubbed in English. If confirmed, it will subsequently justify financing to create new documentaries for the Gea series in order to improve the scientific literacy of the general public and the social impact of the Geominero Museum.
