Platinum-acetylide crosslinkers for facile preparation of phosphorescent commodity polymer networks with defect-free chromophores

2019
Abstract An oxygen-sensitive gel material containing platinum-acetylide was successfully synthesized using covalent linkages between the isocyanate groups on the platinum-acetylide crosslinker and the hydroxyl groups on commodity polymers. It was shown that the elasticity of the gel could be tailored by changing the amount of the crosslinker. Under nitrogen, the gel provided a phosphorescence at 539 nm, which was noteworthy in that the gel material displayed phosphorescent emission without fluorescence. In contrast, changing the surrounding environment of the gel to air decreased the phosphorescent intensity ratio by 94.0%. Our study demonstrated that the platinum-acetylide crosslinker provided a high oxygen sensitivity to the gel materials composed of commodity polymers.
