This is a discussion of the application of 3 theses regarding information technology to the practice of transportation planning: information technology causes major changes in organizations and disciplines; management will determine whether information technology will enrich jobs; the technology will encourage the creation of a new organizational form which will replace the hierarchical organization. The paper also discusses what transportation professionals should do if they accept the thesis of articulated organization. Action in the areas of policy, comminication, management practice, and recruitment are discussed.
