The nature of the surface of modified semicokes of brown coal and their sorption properties

2002
On the basis of the analysis of the IR spectra and the data of elemental and functional analyses and of the determination of the sorption capacity of certain gases, vapors and dissolved substances, it is concluded that the sorptive and ion-exchange properties of semicokes of brown coals are determined by the chemical nature of their surface (by the presence of sulfo, carboxyl and other functional groups). It is shown that these sorbents can be used to extract certain toxic gases and vapors and also various metal ions, including radionuclides.
