Morphological changes of the aorta after administration of Na 2EDTA with special reference to the mucoid medial necrosis

1982
Summary In previous papers ( Yamaguchi et al. 1980a, b) it was demonstrated that intraperitoneal administration of high doses of Na 2 EDTA led to multiple angitis or angiolytic changes of the mesenteric arteries in the various phases. In this study, using the same procedures, morphological manifestations comparable to mucoid medial necrosis of the aorta were observed. The formative mechanism is discussed with respect to the removal of calcium ions after administration of Na 2 EDTA.
