Surgical Ablative Treatment of Head and Neck Cancers

2021
Principles of head and neck cancer extirpation weigh proper comprehensive resection with facial disfigurement and functional disorders. Preoperative assessment of tumor and nodal stages are essential to guide treatment. Management differs vastly based on the anatomic origin of the primary, which must be discussed on an individual basis. New advances including transoral laser microsurgery and transoral robotic surgery have allowed improved access with decreased surgical morbidity. In this chapter, we review the principles of head and neck cancer resection and provide an overview of various management options for each anatomical region of the head and neck.
