Identification of reservoir characteristics in cased-wells Devonian shale. Topical report, October 1990

1990
Existing cased wells in the Devonian shale can be evaluated regardless of the availability of any previous open-hole logs. This will enable the operator to evaluate older wells for recompletion possibilities. Log models have been recently developed, based on extensive use of core analysis, for identifying reservoir characteristics in the open-hole. Using this knowledge and an understanding of the linkage of these characteristics minimum logging suites can be utilized in the evaluation of the Devonian shale. Using the extensive data set collected during the comprehensive study well (CSW) program, a method was developed for evaluating existing cased-hole wells. The methodology involves the use of several combinations of open and cased-hole logs. Although the evaluation results are more reliable where key open hole logs are available, acceptable results can be obtained even without any open hole log data.
