2012
Repeated dose oral toxicity study for 28 days of Kasisa Bhasma (FeSO 4, 7H 2 O , green vitriol), a popular Ayurvedic formulation, was carried out in Wistar rats to evaluate the toxicity, if any. In this study, the dose schedule was 225, 112.5 and 22.5 mg/ kg/day, for 28 consecutive days resulted i n no mortality. In female rats, treated with 22.5mg/kg/day,112.5mg/kg/day and 225mg/kg/day showed significant decrease of SGPT level, Eosinophil count and Prothrombine time respectively, whereas males tre ated with 225mg/kg/day showed significant decrease of total protein. Moreover, there were no changes observed in histopathological evaluation of the high dose group animals when compared to control group, which revealed that there was no adverse effect of Kasisa Bhasma , the classical Ayurvedic Organo - metallic preparation in oral consumption in Wistar Rats for 28 consecutive days of study.
