CIRUGÍA ROBÓTICA EN EL TRATAMIENTO QUIRÚRGICO DE LA ACALASIA. PRIMERA EXPERIENCIA EN EL HOSPITAL UNIVERSITARIO DE CARACAS

2009
Objetive: To report the initial experience in robot assisted laparoscopic treatment of achalasia in the University Hospital of Caracas.Patient and method: Sixty two years old male patient who presented a 6 months history of dysphagia. The superior endoscopic study was normal and the esophageal manometry showed alteration in peristaltism with absent inferior esophageal sphincter relaxation, confirming the diagnosis of achalasia. The patient is referred to the robotic surgery program of the Hospital Universitario de Caracas. Results: A robot assisted laparoscopic treatment of achalasia was performed. The operative time was 165 minutes, with no procedure associated complication reported. The patient was discharge 24 hours after intervention. Conclusion: The robot assisted minimally invasive surgical treatment of the achalasia is a safe and effective procedure which apparently shows some advantages over traditional laparoscopy.
