Solitary Fibrous Tumour of the Floor of the Mouth

Abstract This report is of an 84-year-old man with a solitary fibrous tumour of the oral cavity. He was diagnosed with a benign tumour, and surgical excision was performed. Microscopic examination revealed haphazardly arranged spindle-shaped tumour cells. Immunohistochemically, the tumour cells were positive for clusters of differentiation34, B-cell lymphoma-2, and vimentin, and negative for epithelial, myogenic, neurogenic and histiocytic markers. To the authors' knowledge, this is only the fourth reported patient with solitary fibrous tumour of the oral cavity involving the oral floor.
