Modified Space Vector Modulation Scheme and Control Strategy for Isolated Bidirectional Three-phase AC-DC Matrix Converter

Matrix converter eliminates DC link capacitor from the conventional two stage converter resulting in higher power density and reliability. Bidirectional power flow and galvanic isolation by the high frequency transformer makes this converter even more popular. However, the conventional modulation schemes result in higher distortions and inject low order harmonics in the AC side grid current. This paper presents a modified SVM strategy to reduce distortion in grid current. A control strategy to keep the AC side grid current sinusoidal under all loading conditions has been proposed. The proposed control strategy has the ability to control both active and reactive power flow. Effectiveness of the proposed modulation scheme and control strategy is demonstrated through simulation results.
