Methyl Benzoquate*, a New Wide-Spectrum Coccidiostat for Chickens

SUMMARY Methyl benzoquate (7-benzyloxy-6-n-butyl-3-methoxycarbonyl quinol-4-one) administered continuously at a level of 0.001 per cent in the food gives excellent protection against Eimeria acervulina , E. brunetti , E. maxima , E. mivati , E. necatrix and E. tenella in chickens as judged by control of mortality, weight gain and oocyst output. It thus displays more than ten times the intrinsic activity of other available coccidiostats, and has a wider spectrum of activity than most.
