LEQUES ALUVIAIS PLEISTOCÊNICOS DA REGIÃO COSTEIRA DA BAHIA: IMPLICAÇÕES PALEOCLIMÁTICAS

2018
White to gray Pleitocene sand deposits, with high local contents of gravel, mud, or both, occur along the coastal region of the State of Bahia, Brazil. These sediments are found on the foothills and on valley- sides. They constitute alluvial fan deposits exhibiting features indicative of deposition by debris flow processes under arid to semi-arid climate. Such a climate differs marked1y from the more humid present conditions. From a paleoclimatic standpoint, they are an important record of the last great period of dry climate on that part of the Brazilian coast, during the Quaternary.
