In recent years, different types of organizations, have conducted studies of organizational communication (CO) for the purpose of contributing elements to achieve their organizational objectives. These studies have been made from different disciplines; few studies on the communication behavior in organizations from the communication sciences, even though they have much to contribute. This paper aims to provide some systematic criteria regarding the concept of organizational communication, since the term has undergone transformations over time and the various theoretical and methodological sources that scholars have employed. The ultimate goal is to take steps in the development of studies of organizational communication, work is just beginning. The first question concerns the recognition of the epistemological bases that have been studied in USA and Latin America. The second addresses the most recent studies of Mexican organizations that deal with issues of internal communication and organizational communication. To the study, 16 papers published in recognized journals EBSCO Host and 49 papers presented at the Research Group (GI) Integral Communication in Organizations AMIC dating from 2008 to 2012 were analyzed.
