Advances in reconstruction of the upper aerodigestive tract and cranial base with free tissue transfer

Retrospective studies comparing regional, pedicled myocutaneous flaps to free tissue transfer in head and neck reconstruction suggest that free tissue transfer is more reliable and functionally superior and can be performed with no increase in mortality and less patient morbidity.
