A Simple Multisampler for Hydraulic Soil Probes

1998
Nutrient distribution near fertilizer bands is studied by sampling soil perpendicular to band orientation These studies require intensive hand sampling, which is time consuming and difficult. More research can be conducted if sampling techniques are improved and made cost effective. We designed and constructed a multisampler system that fits a hydraulic probe and doubled sampling efficiency, The system consists of a sampler, sampling tubes, a template, and a tray to hold soil boxes. These components can be used to construct a sampler and a template that correspond to a specific sampling scheme, and can be adapted to a wide range of configurations. The system can be constructed with tools readily available at most farm shops and the materials are easily obtainable.
