Zhejiang: Improve the management and service mechanism for population and family planning among the floating program.

At the end of 2005 the whole province of Zhejiang had a total number of 11.22 million immigrants of childbearing age of whom 4.32 million were women and 2.99 million were married women. The number of children born to the floating population totaled 17315 of which 2943 were out-of-plan births. The fertility rate of the married women of childbearing age was 5.79 and 83% were practicing family planning. In contrast the number of people of childbearing-age working outside their hometowns totaled 3.4 million by the end of 2005. Of these people 1.72 million were women and 1.25 million were married women. Of the 22407 births given by these women 6630 were unplanned. The fertility rate of the married women of childbearing age was 17.8 and the family planning prevalence rate was 70%. (excerpt)
