In this work, the photochemical step of photosynthesis was used as a theme to demonstrate the application of active learning methodologies (ALM) for Teaching Methodology students of undergraduate course in Biological Sciences. Initially a lecture on ALM and its importance to the learning process was presented and, a month later, inverted classroom was used to explore the specific theme. Therefore, texts and videos about photosynthesis were made available to the students and one week later the subject was discussed by the students and teachers. This activity was followed by the dramatization of the phenomenon, which was guided by the teachers. The results were spontaneously evaluated by the students and revealed the importance of AML in the development of complex subjects and reinforced that AML requires a great involvement and work of the teacher, not only to motivate the accomplishment of the activities before class, but also in conducting the discussions, in running the activity and in concluding the work.
