Biodeterioration of materials in marine environments

1994
Susceptibility to attack of materials in marine environments varies with material, geographic location, and environmental conditions. Communities of organisms can work synergistically and vary from location to location. In most instances, therefore, rates of attack cannot predicted accurately or simulated in laboratory experiments. Knowledge of the local marine flora and fauna and enviromental conditions are a necessary prerequisite to obtaining maximum service life of any materials of construction
