Changes of Betaine Content and Activity of Betaine Aldehyde Dehydro-Genase of Leymus chinensis in Different Saline-Alkali Grassland

2006
Under the double effects of different alkai and salt stresses and bearing stage, changes of betaine content and activity of betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase of Leymus chinensis were studied in the Songnen grassland. The results showed: With the aggravation of salinization and alkalization, content of betaine and activity of betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase increased. In sample No.six, which was the most serious in salinization and alkalization, content of betaine and activity of betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase of Leymus chinensis were the highest. In the same sample grassland, both betaine content and activity of betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase displayed a single peak curve in different bearing stages. In the same grassland, betaine content accumulation was higher in leaves of Leymus chinensis, which probably explains why Leymus chinensis can endure alkai and salt stresses.
