Advanced epoxy resin

1990
PURPOSE: To obtain an advanced epoxy resin by reacting a specified liquid or semisolid aromatic epoxy resin with an aliphatic diol in the presence of a cyclic quaternary ammonium compound, and reacting the obtained product with a specified bisphenol at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION: A liquid or semisolid aromatic epoxy resin containing at least one epoxy group (preferably diglycidyl ether based on bisphenol A and having an epoxy number of 3-6 equivalents/g) is reacted with an aliphatic diol (preferably comprising, e.g. ethylene glycol) in an amount of 2-30 equivalents % based on the epoxy equivalents of the epoxy resin in the presence of a cyclic quaternary ammonium compound (preferably comprising, e.g. a quaternary pyrrolidinium salt), and the obtained product is reacted with a bisphenol of the formula (wherein R 1 is a 1-8C alkyl, etc.; Y is C-C, etc.; m is 0 to 2; and n is 0 or 1) (preferably comprising, e.g. resorcinol), in an amount of 30-95 equivalent % based on the epoxy equivalents of the epoxy resin to give the advanced epoxy resin having low viscosity and excellent in adhesiveness, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
