Therapeutic Management of Clinical Mastitis-A Study in 18 Cows

2015
Eighteen cows with 25 affected quarters exhibiting symptoms of mastitis were taken up to study diagnosis, cultural examination and therapeutic management. Laboratory findings revealed that all the affected samples were of grade 2 (++) reaction to CMT. A negative CMT reaction was observed in 3–5 days in Group II (84.6%) and Group III (91.6%). Isolates in the present study were coagulase positive Staphylococcus spp (68.0%), followed by Streptococci (p-hemolytic) 28%, Klebsiella spp. 12% and Pseudomonas spp. 8% and E.coli (4%). Cows of Group II were treated with Ceftriaxone and Meloxicam while Group III were treated with Enrofloxacin along with Vitamin E and Selenium and Meloxicam. The clinical cure rate noticed in Group II and Group III was 84.6% and 91.6% respectively.
