A Tentative Discussion on the Factors Accounting for the Unpopularity of A Collection of Foreign Short Novels——Based on Manipulation Theory

A Collection of Foreign Short Novels was not well-received in the late Ch'ing book market.Based on manipulation theory,the present paper uncovers the factors that account for the unpopularity of the book by comparing its translation strategy,choice of source text,language style and literary aesthetics with those of the translated literature mainstreams in late Ch'ing dynasty.
