A New Oral Hypoglycemic Agent: l-Methyl-4-(3-methyl-5-isoxazolyl)pyridinium Chloride

1968
Oral administration of l-methyl-4-(3-methyl-5-isoxazolyl). pyridinium chloride ( I ) significantly decreased blood glucose concentration in cockerels, guinea pigs, normal mice and alloxan-hyperglycemic mice and rats. Alloxanized mice were most sensitive to the hypoglycemic action of I . These data indicate that I is an oral hypoglycemic agent in several species of experimental animals both in normo- and hyperglycemic states.
