Tribute to Professor Edith Bülbring

Edith Bulbring, FRS, Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology at Oxford University passed away on July 5th, 1990 at the age of 86. During her distinguished career, she received many honors for her work on the fundamental properties of smooth muscle including: Schmiedeberg-Plakette der Deutschen Pharmakologischen Gesellschaft; honorary memberships in the Italian Pharmaceutical Society, British Physiological Society, and German Physiological Society; honorary degrees from the Universities of Groningen (Netherlands), Leuven (Belgium), and Homburg Saar (Germany); and the Wellcome Gold Medal in Pharmacology.
