Study on the color reaction of 1-(5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid)-3-(4-phenylazophenyl) triazene with tetradecylpyrid-inium bromide and anionic surfactants

This paper reports the new color reaction of 1-(5-naphthol-7-sulfonic acid)-3-( 4-phenylazophenyl) tri-azene ( NASAPAPT) with tetradecylpyridinium bromide (TPB) and anionic surfactant (AS) in NaOH basic medium. The color reaction was fast and stable. The maximum absorption wavelength of the complex was 594nm. The molar composition of the complex was found to be NASA-PAPT:AS=1:3.The method has been applied to analysis of water sample with satisfactory results.
