Genetic diversity of Zika virus in Thailand: How does this compare with other countries

Abstract Zika virus (ZIKV) is an emerging and reemerging arthropod-borne Flavivirus disease which is transmitted via mosquito bite. Since 2015, ZIKV has been spreading rapidly throughout the world especially in subtropical and tropical countries. In Thailand a large number of ZIKV infected cases were found, two of which were ZIKV-related microcephaly. ZIKV strains in human and mosquito samples in Thailand can be clustered into Asian/American clades. This chapter looks at ZIKV strains, discussing the genetic diversity of ZIKV in Thailand in comparison to other countries. We hope to demonstrate how the ZIKVs spread, which would help us to develop effective disease preventative and control measures.
